Panel one: Text reads, “There are parts of my identity and appearance I used to read as feminine but don’t anymore.” Bela is standing in front of his bedroom mirror, adjusting his beanie. There are twinkling lights hung around the room.
Panel two: Text continues, “Why should my name be a “girl’s name?” It doesn’t have to be!” In the panel we see Bela’s work lanyard and name tag, listing his pronouns as “He/They.” On the lanyard are some cute buttons of a cat and another reading, “Protect Trans Kids.”
Panel two: “Lots of people wear jewelry, so what makes my dangly earring collection so girly?” There are three pairs of earrings drawn into the panel. One pair is in the shape of the transgender symbol, another pair features long pointy crystals, and the last pair are of spotted mushrooms.
Panel three: “I’m not able to bind my chest everyday, and even if I could, I don’t want to!” Bela gets some stares from strangers as he walks around wearing a shirt that says, “Real men have titties”
Panel four: “Other people will see these parts of me and read them as femme, but I don’t see it that way. This is just my everyday self.” Bela is working at a cash register and looks visibly annoyed as a customer wearing a baseball hat says, “Thank you ma’am!” Bela imagines the man on fire.
Note: I changed the spelling of my name to Bela with one L sometime after making this comic but my point still stands!
